Hello, I’m Ellie (my real Japanese name is Eri). Thank you for stopping by my blog. Here I share the recipes I make for my family in our daily life in Tokyo.
About me
I’m a graphic designer, mother of two children and occasional food blogger.
I started this blog in 2017, based on my experience of living in London and Edinburgh studying a Master’s degree in graphic design. What I enjoyed the most was neither studying nor sightseeing but cooking with my friends. It was a first time to live away from my parents and I fell in love with cooking. For me, cooking and eating together were the best way to bond with people from other countries. I loved to know about new friends and new food / ingredients I had never tasted. Also, I was very happy that my friends enjoyed many Japanese dishes besides sushi. Now I’m back in Japan but I still like to introduce my favorite Japanese dishes and share the fun of cooking.
The Recipes
I will focus on Japanese homemade cooking inspired by my mother (a vegan chef) and my surroundings in Tokyo. Most of my recipes are quick to prepare, since I’m a full-time working mother who has to prepare food in 30 minutes or less. Mostly I make dishes from scratch, but at the same time I do use pre-made ingredients to take a shortcut. Other than that, I intend to avoid the use of unfamiliar Japanese ingredients, such as mirin (sweet rice wine) and sake (Japanese rice wine) on every recipe unless it’s one of the key flavors of the dishes. I hope that everyone can follow the recipes if you don’t live near an Asian grocery store.
My dream
I have devoted in graphic design over the past 15 years, but now I want to learn about cooking especially dessert and bread. I’m planning to quit my company job in the near future and attend at a pastry / baking school. My goal is to open an intimate cooking school in my house, sharing a happiness of cooking. Also, I would like to continue writing my blog on the journey to my dream.
You can expect new recipes (mains / sides / snacks / drinks / desserts) a few time a month. Occasionally I post eating out experience / travel stories too. I hope these will inspire you to create and enjoy!
